...day FIVE...

Today started off with a bang!

Okay not really.... we decided to try and hit the road early because it was a longer day of driving than we had done before - 7 hours! But tomorrow is 12 hours so maybe this is just practice for that.

We went to sleep with the motor home pretty much ready to roll out except for putting in one slide and my husband's normal manly duties.... "unhooking" us. He is such a rock star! He got up before any of us and before I know it there he is filling tanks and unhooking sewer lines before 7am!

We also had the challenge of getting Esther's 'tent' {yes - more explanation on that later} from on the floor at the foot of our bed to up on our bed, in order to put the slide in. And shall we just say... her bed is actually kind of squished down there. Lol So chances of getting it and her up on the bed without waking her up were slim to none in my opinion. However, with the incredible talent of my husband and I we did successfully lift her, in her tent, up onto our bed. Then the secret is to be driving. When we are driving and she's sleeping it's a nice rock and lull that could put me to sleep! :) Well honestly it doesn't take much to do that! Lol The bigs didn't make it through the early morning take off but that's okay.

*except - oops.... one of the big's camelbak backpacks leaked overnight. Not a huge deal unless I tell you that it leaked through his bed and onto the DRIVERS SEAT! But to the credit of the chauffeur he actually handled it very calmly.... put a towel down on his seat and told said "big" that he'd torture him later! Lol

Onto Priority #1! Especially this early in the morning! :) And so Mr driver spotted one right off the highway and took the exit...

Yes that's grandma shaking her finger at the driver making sure he minds his p's and q's! Just your imagination here... his mother-in-law along for 17 days! Lol Can I just tell you what a GUY he is! ❤️

There ya go... that's how excited he is for his morning Starbucks! Lol

Got our coffee and on the road we were! Now that's record take-off time for us... 7:40am (which was technically after Starbucks). By the way, my coffee was gloriously made correct this morning! :) It was kind of a Dutch Bros type Starbucks with a drive-thru and walk-up window ONLY!

The three snuggling on the couch after an on-the-road wake-up.

Made it to Cheyenne, WY in record time. Filled up with gas and headed out again! :)

A little break of car seat free time for the little princess!

RANDOM.

On the road again towards Colorado Springs! Eating on the road means opening the refrigerator to get food and drinks out for the masses. However, we can't always anticipate the bumps, curves, dips, sways and turns in the road. So at times, opening the refrigerator is a very precarious task! Just imagine everything in it coming crashing forward towards the person standing holding the door open. Well let me just help you 'imagine!' Lol

You can't see it very well but in the bottom left corner is a half-gallon JAR of milk. Two vehicle passengers were obtaining something out of the door of the fridge when one of the shelves came off. So I went over to assist them in putting the shelf back on and collecting the items that had fallen out of it when....

Said half-gallon jar fell out and dropped right on my big toe!!! OOOOOOUCH!!!!

INJURY #2)... My big toe black & blue!

Lots of sympathy please! Lol It's hard to tell in the picture however the bottom left corner of my big toe nail is beginning to turn black & blue! And let me just say it hurt like the dickins! (Is that a bad word? Lol)

Lots of friends and family to see in Colorado Springs - unfortunately not enough time. We pulled into Colorado Springs and got to take a tour and do some extra fun stuff at Focus On The Family! :)

Bet you can't guess who the comedian is!

I guess Kevin was impressed that they even have one of these! Lol

----------------------------

It was a LONG day for the littles! But they were troopers! Even sleeping in the stroller as we went into dinner and enjoyed deliciousness at California Pizza Kitchen! (Yes - we did!)

Then Tate realized...

LOST ITEM #2... Tate's coat! Yes he had thrown it down on a bench when playing in Odyssey! Yaaaa! That makes us so happy!! {insert heavy sarcasm!} One pleading phone call to nearby family friend to go rescue said coat from a supposed 'lost & found,' and please mail to us! Mom rant... if it was a cheap Walmart coat I wouldn't have minded just leaving it but it was a nice quilted Lands End coat that was in great shape and can still be used by one more child!!! 😁

We were ahead of schedule (for once! lol) and the driver was feeling good so we decided to push it a couple more hours so tomorrow wouldn't be quite as long of a day! We googled an RV park somewhere down the highway two hours or so and picked up a bucks for the late evening drive, AND...

OPERATION COLORADO MUG... SUCCESS!!!! Yahoo! 😄

So we found this place called Raton Pass, New Mexico. It had Raton Pass Camp & Cafe.

I called the place and reserved a spot for about 10pm that night. She said to be sure and follow the directions on their website and she would leave our receipt and spot # in the white night registration box. Great! We traveled along and finally Kevin said okay tell me where to go. The only problem with that... NO cell signal! Lol Kevin remembered the exit number so we pulled off on the exit where there was also a weigh station and were waiting for our cell signal to come back strong enough to bring up their website which was almost there when my phone rang. Kind of freaked us out since it was 10pm at night! It was an odd area code so I answered it and the male voice on the other end said... "find yourself on the wrong side of the freeway?" I was caught off guard to say the least! lol I had no idea who it was and they could clearly see us! Kind of eary when you are in New Mexico in the pitch dark of night pulled off of the freeway on some random exit! My first was that we were not supposed to be parked to the side of the weigh station. Maybe we were being illegal by "loitering" or something!?! You know like no stopping or parking at the airport curb! Lol So I say... "are you calling from the weigh station?" And he says something like, "no, you are on the wrong side of the highway! Look over to your left, see the flashing light?" Anyway, it was the man from the RV park (very loosely put) and apparently they saw us stopped across from them. I explained that we were just looking up their website for directions and well he just gave them to me... turn around, right, right, left. At any rate it would have been extremely nice for him to actually introduce who he was on the phone before just talking in a low creepy voice at 10:30pm at night! Lol We found the place and our spot and settled in for the night ready to hit it hard for our now 10 hour day the next day! (I still was a little creeped out at that place and there was only one other RV besides us! Lol) But we survived the night and lived to tell about it without my worst fears coming to fruition! :p
